A Maroon Bells Elopement in Aspen, Colorado

Jaya & Grant's Maroon Bells Elopement

Maroon Bells, Aspen, CO· Summer

Jaya and Grant eloped at the Maroon Bells at sunrise, said their vows with alpenglow on the peaks, then spent the morning wandering wildflower meadows with the handful of people they love most.

Why Elope at the Maroon Bells

The Maroon Bells are the most photographed peaks in North America, and for good reason. Two 14,000-foot summits rise straight out of a valley of aspens and wildflowers with Maroon Lake mirroring them at the base. At sunrise the whole face turns orange for about fifteen minutes, which is exactly why we started early. If you want a Colorado elopement that feels enormous with almost no walking, this is the spot.

Permits and Access at Maroon Bells

Maroon Bells sits in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness outside Aspen. Weddings and elopements need a special use permit through the White River National Forest, group sizes are capped, and Maroon Creek Road is reservation-only for most of the summer season, so shuttle or vehicle reservations get booked well in advance. Sunrise ceremonies are the easiest way to have the valley mostly to yourselves.

The Timeline

We met before first light, hiked a few minutes to the ceremony spot, and had vows finished as alpenglow hit the Bells. From there we moved slowly, portraits along Maroon Lake, wildflowers, a lantern walk, then family and kid photos once everyone was awake and warm. No rushing, no big production, just a morning that felt like them.

Bringing Family to an Elopement

Eloping does not mean nobody comes. Jaya and Grant brought parents, siblings, and the kids, which meant flower crowns, a few tears during vows, and group photos with the Bells behind everyone. Small guest counts keep the day intimate and make permits far simpler.

Planning Your Own Maroon Bells Elopement

Best months are late June through September for wildflowers and clear roads, with late September for gold aspens. Plan for cold mornings even in July, altitude around 9,600 feet, and afternoon storms. I help couples with permits, sunrise timing, vendor recommendations in Aspen, and a full day-of timeline as part of every elopement package.

From our engagement session at Red Rocks to our wedding day, we couldn't have asked for a better photographer. Riley was incredibly kind, patient, and supportive throughout the entire experience. He truly listened to all of our inspiration photos and went above and beyond to recreate them while still capturing genuine moments that felt like us. Our engagement photoshoot at Red Rocks was extremely windy, but he never let the weather affect his attitude or creativity. He made us feel comfortable, guided us through every pose, and somehow made the challenging conditions look effortless. The results were absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for someone who is talented, professional, easy to work with, and genuinely cares about making your vision come to life, I can't recommend him enough. Thank you Riley for giving us memories we'll cherish forever!
