We met at Red Rocks for golden hour, worked our way through the sandstone formations, and finished with the sun dropping over Denver. Jaya and Grant laughed through the whole thing.
Why Red Rocks for Engagement Photos
Red Rocks Park in Morrison is fifteen minutes from Denver and looks like nowhere else on the Front Range, 300-foot red sandstone fins, hidden alcoves, and long views east over the city. It photographs beautifully in the last hour of light, and there is enough variety in one park to make a session feel like three locations.
Best Time to Shoot at Red Rocks
Golden hour on a weekday. The amphitheater and trading post lots fill up fast on concert days, so we check the event calendar first. Sunrise is quieter if you want the trails to yourself, and spring greens up the scrub around the formations.
How the Session Went
We started along the upper overlooks for sunset light, moved into the alcoves for warmer, moodier frames, then wandered the lower trails for relaxed portraits in the brush. Mostly I gave small prompts and let them be themselves, which is where the good ones always come from.
